After leaving the Royal College of Music many moons ago, Alison’s love of children led her into a career specialising in playing with and writing music for pre-teens children. Over the years Alison has created a wealth of music, some of which has entered the standard school repertoire. Her music is published by Music Sales Limited (Golden Apple and Chester), Kingsway Publications (Children’s Ministry and Thankyou Music), Classic Fox Records , Out of the Ark and Alison’s own publishing company Alison Hedger Children’s Music.
Alison’s infectious enthusiasm bubbles over into her music. Her understanding and sympathy with young children and teachers, has resulted in music which seems simple with melodies that linger in the mind; yet there is a hidden bonus – the music is educationally correct, supports cross-curricular subjects, and great fun!
Alison regularly goes into schools and keeps in touch with the younger generation. She lives in a big old rambling country house, close to the beautiful Solent coast. Alison watches ducks on the pond from her office window, and her favourite flowers are sweet peas. She has nine grandchildren and enjoys long walks along the sea shore. Alison thoroughly enjoys all her work and has been blessed for many years in being able to do what she most enjoys – making music with and writing music for children.

Don’t worry if you aren’t a fantastic keyboard player or a music specialist, the piano/keyboard parts are never too demanding, and every publication has a recording with backing tracks. Alison has spent many years simplifying and tidying up other writers’ compositions. In fact, Alison has helped several well-known children’s composers to be established by arranging and editing their work for the Golden Apple imprint.
Alison is perhaps best known for her work with Golden Apple, an imprint that Alison founded from her kitchen table in 1986. Golden Apple was a one-man organization that proved immensely popular and which was acquired by Music Sales in 1991. Since starting with just one Nativity collection in 1986 A STAR SHINES OUT , the Golden Apple range has steadily grown over the years and now boasts over 120 titles and has a worldwide following.
